History of the Cross
The cross is perhaps the most recognize symbol of Christianity today. For Christians, the cross represents the crucification of Jesus at Calvary and the sacrifice for our sins on earth. The cross is shown in many different forms, shapes, materials, sizes. The cross can be shown by itself or shown with Jesus in crucifix form. The cross can be as small as a pendant or as large as a statue.

Mount Royal Cross
Perhaps one of the most well known crosses is Mount Royal Cross in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In 1643, the first Mount Royal Cross was placed by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, the then governor of the Island. As he was praying to the Virgin Mary to help stop a terrible flood, he vowed to place this cross.
Today, The Mount Royal Cross is now a 103 foot high cross lit with fiber optics. The cross is generally lit white but can be lit any color. The cross is owned by the Municipality of Montreal.
